We pride ourselves on the consistent high standard of the exams wherever they are held and we value the opinions of all of our candidates. After every exam you will be asked to give your opinion on your experience including the application process in a candidate survey. Your feedback will help us to identify necessary improvements and the processes that support it.

We try to make the process of applying for our exams as clear as possible and we provide a range of answers in our Frequently Asked Questions section that we hope you will find useful.

If you would like to speak to a member of staff about any aspect of your application please direct all enquiries to our administration office. Please do not contact your chosen examination centre directly as they will not be able to assist you (with some exceptions, please see below*¥).

* Written examinations centres: Hong Kong candidates should contact the administrative teams for these centres directly with enquiries about their application.

* PACES examination centres: Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Sharjah centres in the United Arab Emirates, and Myanmar.

English language requirements

All the examinations are conducted in English.

The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test is the main route for international medical graduates to show that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to practise medicine in the UK. You do not need to have passed the PLAB test in order to take the examination.

Full details on who is required to take the test can be found at the PLAB test section of the GMC website.

IELTS

As the exams are in English, candidates are advised that, in order to be sufficiently prepared to sit the MRCP(UK) Diploma and SCEs, their English language ability should be equivalent to IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Level 7.5 in each module. For more information please see the IELTS website. You do not need to take IELTS to sit the examinations.

English speaking patients in international PACES examinations

In International centres, on occasion, candidates may examine non-English speaking patients, we have regulations in place to allow fair testing if this situation arises, for more information on this please see ‘Advice, guidance and preparation’.

Examination centre addresses

Centre locations are subject to change, which is why we cannot provide full centre address information until all arrangements are finalised.

We understand that you may need to make travel and other arrangements. With this in mind, we confirm the city of the exam when your application is completed and aim to send admission documents (containing specific address information) at the earliest opportunity.

Proposer details

We encourage all candidates to discuss their applications for the Part 1 and Part 2 with their proposer. The proposer can be a current or most recent Educational Supervisor or Supervising Consultant and do not need to be a holder of MRCP(UK) or FRCP(UK).
