Written exams weekly update: 7 December

Part 1 and Part 2 The results for the Part 1 backup exam and for the main Part 2 exam were released on Friday 27 November as planned.

Part 1 and Part 2

The results for the Part 1 backup exam and for the main Part 2 exam were released on Friday 27 November as planned. There was an IT issue which caused a delay to the release of those results on the day, and MRCP(UK) staff worked extremely hard to address it, so that all results were released on the day albeit later than we had hoped. We sincerely apologise to all candidates who were affected by this.

The next Part 1 diet will take place on 12 January 2021, as a hybrid of paper and remote online proctored formats. All places for the online exam will be finalised this week, and unfortunately it will not be possible to change from paper to online after this due to the logistics of registering candidates for the online exam by our online provider. The date for the backup exam for this diet (which will be offered to candidates affected by late written centre cancellations or by technical issues with the online exam) will be announced soon.

The Part 2 online backup exam, for UK candidates sitting the October exam who had their venue places cancelled or who experienced significant technical issues during the online exam, will run this week on 8 December.

The next diet of Part 2 will take place on 23 March 2021. This is again planned to be run in hybrid form (both paper and online formats) in the UK and selected international centres. The application window will open on 11 January.

Specialty Certificate Exams / European Specialty Exams

The SCE in Endocrinology & Diabetes and the European Board Examination in Endocrincology, Diabetes and Metabolism (EBEEDM) will run this week on 9 December.

All SCE / ESE exams for 2021 are currently planned to run as scheduled, in Pearson Vue centres; details for each specialty can be found here.

Dates for SCE / ESE backup exams will be published shortly, as soon as these are finalised and confirmed.

Live Twitter chats

Live Q&A sessions about the written exams have been taking place on our Twitter account on a regular basis, and we have felt this has been very successful and a very useful way for candidates and MRCP(UK) to communicate during the recent period whilst we have been restarting our exams following the first lockdown. These will continue, and for the future we will be arranging them around the dates of exams. They will take a short break over the Christmas / New Year period, and will return early in 2021 – date to be announced soon.

General

We sincerely apologise to candidates if it has taken us longer than usual to respond to queries, both by telephone and by email. MRCP(UK) office staff have had to work remotely, as well as dealing both with an unusually large number of queries and with an exceptionally large number of candidates taking our exams (due to the cancellations of exams which took place during the first lockdown). They have also had to process the results of the backup exams as well as the main exams, often concurrently, and to analyse results delivered in two different formats (paper and online). Rest assured we will respond to all queries and allow us a little longer to get back to everyone.

We welcome feedback. If you have specific queries relating to your exam day please contact the exams office at your College of entry.

For other general queries or suggestions please email Policy.Officer@mrcpuk.org.
