Vacancy: IMPACT National Director

The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is seeking to appoint a National Director for IMPACT.

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, based in the UK and with international reach, is a collaboration between the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and Royal College of Physicians. Collectively, the colleges represent more than 50,000 physicians worldwide. The JRCPTB improves patient care by setting and maintaining standards for the highest quality of physician training in the UK.

Purpose of the role:

IMPACT (Ill Medical Patients' Acute Care and Treatment) is a two-day course covering many aspects of internal medicine stage 1 training, intended to enhance trainee confidence in managing the acutely ill/deteriorating medical patient. The course provides "state of the art" online patient simulation and peer reviewed up-to-date e-learning as preparation for an intense two-day face-to-face course. Key point presentations, workshops, "hands on" skills stations and critically ill patient teaching are given by trained senior doctors in a supportive environment.

The role holder will be responsible for the leadership, planning and delivery of the IMPACT programme. This includes growing the IMPACT programme by clearly articulating its role in the medical education of trainees in the UK and globally and creating a strategy to best do so in a measured and financially sustainable way.

Working with the Medical Director of JRCPTB, the Deputy Director of IMPACT and a proposed new IMPACT steering committee, the role holder will develop a long-term plan for the delivery of the programme. Leading the Curriculum Design Group (CDG), the role holder will plan, deliver and review the educational content, across all modes of delivery, including online and hybrid delivery.

The role holder will have oversight of the financial income and expenditure, prepared by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow through the service level agreement.

Requirements:

Applicants should be Fellows in good standing with one of the three Royal Colleges of Physicians or Royal College of Anaesthetists or Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine or College of Emergency Medicine with a current licence to practice. It is preferred that the appointee is in current clinical practice. They should have prior knowledge and experience of involvement in the IMPACT programme, or have held a national role in a similar clinical education programme. The post holder should have a thorough and up to date understanding and experience of the regulations, processes and management of medical training. They will also possess good chairing skills and the ability to develop and lead effective teams, both domestically and internationally.

Time Commitment:

The IMPACT National Director will be appointed for a period of two years in the first instance. This may be renewable for a further two years, by mutual agreement. The role will require one session (PA) per week, for which the individual or employing trust/board will be remunerated. Most work is currently undertaken in a virtual or hybrid manner, but some travel will be required to London and Glasgow.

How to apply:

Applicants should submit a brief outline of their professional training, together with a summary of how their specific expertise relates to the responsibilities of the role. The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
