UK PACES Prioritisation Criteria for 2022/2 diet

The prioritisation criteria for places in UK PACES centres have been updated for the 2022/2 diet.

The return to the pre-COVID format of the examination enables us to offer an increased number of examination spaces in this diet. In recognition that many applicants who are not in a UK training post have had to wait a significant length of time for a PACES space, the revised criteria prioritise such candidates, along with those trainees who require full MRCP(UK) for entry to an ST4 post in 2022.

There will be four broad prioritisation categories (see below) for allocating candidates living and working in the UK to available PACES places.

Category 1

  • IMY3 trainees
  • Other candidates requiring MRCP(UK) for application and progression to ST4 (for example doctors applying to ST4 with an alternative certificate*)
  • Candidates currently resident and working in the UK who are not in a recognised UK training programme, and who have applied but have not been allocated a PACES place in any diet between 2020/3 and 2022/1
  • 2022/1 candidates in UK centres who were affected by withdrawal/cancellation due to COVID

Category 2a

  • IMY2/ACCS CT2 with a pass in Part 2 written at time of application (including trainees applying for a Group 2 specialtyⴕ)
  • Completed CMT at any time with a pass in Part 2 written at time of application (including trainees applying for a group 2 specialtyⴕ)

Category 2b

  • IMY2/ACCS CT2 without a pass in Part 2 written at time of application (including trainees applying for a group 2 specialtyⴕ)
  • Completed CMT at any time without a pass in Part 2 written at time of application including trainees applying for a group 2 specialtyⴕ)

Category 3

  • IMY1/ACCS CT1

Category 4

  • All other UK based applicants who have not applied since 2020/1

* Candidates may be asked to provide evidence of their alternative certificate /official confirmation of application before they are allocated a place in the examination.
