Sitting the MRCP(UK) Part 1 and 2 exams

There have been a number of MRCP(UK) Part 1 and Part 2 candidates who have approached us to query whether their chance of passing depends on which diet of the year they take the exam.

The simple answer is no, the chance of any given candidate passing the exam is the same in all diets. Although different diets vary in a number of factors, including exam difficulty and cohort ability, all of these are fully accounted for by the methodology we use for setting the standard for the exam, namely test equating with item response theory (reference: https://bmcmededuc.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1472-6920-14-204).

Our advice to all candidates is therefore that they should decide which diet to sit based purely on when they feel they are fully prepared and ready.
