New medical director for assessment

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Stuart Hood as the new Medical Director for Assessment [MRCP(UK)] for the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK.

Stuart brings great experience, expertise and enthusiasm to the role. For the last four years he has been the Associate Medical Director for Clinical Examinations (PACES) and has been pivotal in implementing the new format of PACES in 2023.

He has worked as a consultant cardiologist at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde since 2000 and an examiner for MRCP(UK) for almost 20 years. Prior to his role as associate medical director, he was a member of the MRCP(UK) Cardiology Specialty Question Group from 2007 to 2012. He served as Director of Medical Examinations at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow between 2012 and 2016 and was subsequently appointed the Medical Secretary of the MRCP(UK) Clinical Examining Board in 2016.

Stuart will commence his new role in January 2024. We would also like to express our enormous thanks to Dr Ken Dagg for his fantastic leadership, hard work and dedication as head of assessment for the Federation over the last five years and we wish him the very best for the future.
