Applications open for the 2021 European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

The next European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH), is open for applications from candidates from around the world from today, 16 December 2020.

The ESEGH is delivered jointly in partnership with the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), the European Section and Board of Gastroenterology (ESBGH) and the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK.

In the UK, the examination continues to be the General Medical Council (GMC) approved mandatory summative assessment of knowledge for trainees in Gastroenterology and Hepatology as part of the requirement for the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and therefore entry onto the Specialist Register.

For European based candidates, success in this exam is a demonstration of having achieved the knowledge necessary to fulfil the requirements of the ESBGH curriculum which is a Europe-wide description of the level expected of a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

All gastroenterology trainees have the opportunity to take one high quality examination which ensures that certified specialists have sufficient knowledge of their specialty to practice safely and competently as consultants.

The 2021 ESEGH will take place on 7 April 2021. Please see the ESEGH resources page for further information.
