The changes to the MRCP(UK) Limited Attempts Policy announced in November 2021 will come into effect from January 2024.
All candidates will be permitted a maximum of six attempts at each part of MRCP(UK). Candidates who reach six attempts will be allowed one exceptional additional attempt. Candidates requesting an additional attempt must demonstrate educational activity that will assist them to pass. Requests based on exceptional circumstances will not be considered.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Stuart Hood as the new Medical Director for Assessment [MRCP(UK)] for the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK.
Stuart brings great experience, expertise and enthusiasm to the role. For the last four years he has been the Associate Medical Director for Clinical Examinations (PACES) and has been pivotal in implementing the new format of PACES in 2023.

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Medical Director for Assessments to provide clinical and academic leadership for the MRCP(UK) examinations: Part 1, Part 2 Written, PACES, and the 11 Specialty Certificate and European Specialty Examinations, two of which are harmonised European examinations.

From the 2023/4 diet, delivery of the Part 1 and Part 2 will move to online, centre-based exams for our international candidates. This will replace the pencil and paper format. The application process is the same as before and the exam content and format remains unchanged, so candidates should prepare in the same way as they normally would.

Applications for the 2023/4 Part 1 open on 14 August.
We have a long-standing policy to allow doctors in the UK who hold recognised refugee status to pay a reduced fee of £50 when applying to sit the Part 1 Examination.
Following a review of this policy, the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK has decided that this reduced fee will also apply to both the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Written and PACES examinations from the 2023/03 diets.

Following the developing political situation in Pakistan, we are working closely with our British Council partners in both Karachi and Lahore to monitor the situation. We currently expect the exam to go ahead in Pakistan as planned. Should this change we will contact all affected candidates directly as soon as possible.
Due to the ongoing political unrest in Khartoum, Sudan, the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Written 2023/02 exam on 17 May 2023 has been cancelled. This decision was made at the request of our local partners, the British Council due to safety. All candidates affected by this cancellation have been contacted directly.

We are pleased to advise candidates based in Iraq, that the MRCP(UK) Part 1 and Part 2 Written examinations will resume in Baghdad from the 2023/02 examination diets.
The application period for MRCP Part 1 2023/02 closes on Monday 20 February 2023.
