Part 1 and Part 2

22 Feb 2021

UK PACES examining remains on course to commence on 13 March 2021. As mentioned in the last newsletter, we have managed to reschedule most of the cancelled centres to later dates in April and May and we continue to work with our host centres to maximise the number of places we can offer. The 2021/1 diet is likely to run in the order of 700 places.

Part 1: UK

The contingency exam for the first diet will run entirely online on 30 March. All candidates who have been transferred to this from the main exam in January have already been contacted.

17 Feb 2021

We are aware that a small number of candidates may not be able to sit the online versions of the MRCP(UK) Part 1 and 2 Written examinations. We will review requests to sit a printed version of the examination from candidates who consider themselves unable to sit the online version of the examination. Each request will be considered by the MRCP(UK) policy team and where appropriate arrangements will be made for a printed version of the examination to be provided; this may be in a centre allocated by MRCP(UK).

MRCP(UK) delivers written, PACES and SCE examinations in Myanmar and we will keep our candidates and examiners informed of any changes to the running of scheduled examinations, particularly the Part 2 written examination taking place on 23 March 2021.

In the meantime, we would advise candidates to check the website and social media for updates.

12 Jan 2021

Following a decision by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK in response to the UK wide lockdown and pressures on the NHS, we regret to advise that the start of the 2021/1 UK PACES examination diet is to be delayed until 13 March 2021.

The three Royal Colleges of Physicians’ examination teams are working with their centres to reschedule and will be in contact with all candidates as soon as rescheduled dates are available.

Professor Jackie Taylor, RCPSG President and chair of the Federation said:

Part 1: UK

As a consequence of the latest lockdown restrictions announced by the governments of the UK, the Federation of the three UK Royal Colleges of Physicians has taken the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the paper-based Part 1 examination due to take place in written centres in all four UK nations on Tuesday 12 January.

This decision does not affect those candidates who are already confirmed to sit the Part 1 examination online on 12 January.

2021/1 diet of Part 2 written examination to move online for candidates sitting in the UK and international candidates who require the exam for career progression

8 Jan 2021

We had previously stated, following the recent lockdown restrictions across the UK, that we were aiming to go ahead with the Part 1 examination in Scotland.

Unfortunately, however it quickly became apparent that a number of indirect results of these restrictions meant that it would become extremely difficult to run our physical centres and that we would see a significant number of short notice cancellations with limited ability to influence this.

We are currently reviewing the full details of the latest UK government lockdown restrictions to understand the impact these will have on the upcoming Part 1 exam on 12 January 2021 for candidates sitting in England. We will contact all candidates affected with more information as soon as possible.
